Prominent music
promoter, Jan Milun, contacted recently Christophe de Voise, Conductor /
Composer with an idea of conducting his Stabat Mater during his
festivities celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Popes election on
October 19th, 2003 in Poland. This remarkable composition requires over
three hundred participants and two soloists: Soprano and Tenor. The
pathos and drama of this music quide us immediately to a different
dimension - soulful and profound testimony of artists, who conceived
this composition as a model of refinement and aesthetics, passion and
devotion.
This composition
was meticulously and deeply analyzed by one of the most important
conductors, Maestro Lukas Foss, who after many encounters with de Voise,
proclaimed that :
"...
[his Stabat Mater]
is a
very musical and heartfelt piece which deserves a very fine performance.
I hope it will not be long before this work will be performed".
Also, another
persona in classical music, internationally acclaimed cellist, Christine
Walevska, considered him as a :
" ... great
natural talent ... masters of orchestration ... " .
After over thirty
years of absence from Poland, Maestro de Voise will conduct the Gdansk
Symphony Orchestra and choir in one of the City's beautiful gothic
Cathedrals. For this unique occasion over twenty thousand people are
expected to attend. Many Ambassadors, Governors, Mayors already
announced their presence. The Venerable Cardinal of Poland, and also
large delegation from the Vatican will be there. Major European TV and
Radio stations will document this rare and unique event. Consecutively,
a few excepts will be performed, due to the complexity and size of
this composition:
-
introduction
-
O quam tristis (soprano aria)
-
Virgo Virginum
-
Amen finale
During the same
period, another composition will be presented by Maestro de Voise: "
Cantate pour la Patrie ", where he used the unedited poetry written in
1974 by Karol Wojtla, just before he became John Paul II. This time
beside a solo baritone / bass and choir, de Voise suggested the
participation of world famous cellist, Christina Walevska to join the
symphony with exclusive cello obligato part. Her passionate and
irrepressible presence will add nobility, refinement and elegance to
this rare event. Initially this work was composed in a perspective
of a special presentation in the Vatican for the Pope's birthday, on May
15th. The composition will be performed by Santa Cecilia Conservatory
Orchestra with the Vatican choir, solo bass under the baton of Maestro
de Voise himself. The exact date of this event is still to be
determined. |
